I've pondered long and hard about this post. It is meant for all to read who are willing to listen, but especially those who are Christians. I've written it out in my head hundreds of times never quite getting it from my head to my keyboard. It is a touchy subject that, me being someone who doesn't like to offend or upset anyone, has made it hard to write this and it come out correctly. That being said, please know that this is not meant to offend anyone, but rather to spur you on to think and pray about this. Really pray and seek the Lord for his will and direction and clarity for you.
We, as a nation, are at a turning point. Not only as Americans, but more importantly as believers and followers of Christ. We all know that as good citizens it is our duty and right to vote. We know we should do it and most of the time we do our duty.
This election is different.
Why?
Not because of who is running, who is not running, or who is being written in, but because it is our duty and obligation to God to vote into power those who will follow HIS moral laws, not just economics reasons.
Please understand, the economy is important. To those who are not believers, it's everything. It's what guides who they vote for, pure and simple.
But as Christians, we have to vote on a moral basis. Which candidates will follow God's word regarding the sanctity of life and upholding the biblical values and limits of marriage? These topics are not negotiable in the Bible. We should not waiver in our voting for these issues. If a candidate is against these fundamental principles, we CAN NOT vote for them as Christians. That should make the choice of which presidential candidate, of the two, to vote for easy, Romney. I will admit that he is not the best candidate as far as Christian beliefs because he is Mormon, but he does uphold most of the same moral values as we do. A phrase I hate to use, but it is true, is "he is the lesser of two evils."
But this post is not so much written to the crowd who is undecided between Obama or Romney.
It is written for the "other" voters.
There are a lot of you out there, Christians just like me, who know that our country was founded on conservative, godly principles. The men who fought for our country to be established were mostly God fearing, righteous men who knew that for our country to survive, we must be founded as "one nation, UNDER GOD"...and they did that!
I don't disagree with any of this. In fact, I wholeheartedly pray for us to repent and turn from our wicked ways as Americans today, so that we can receive the Lord's favor and blessings on this country.
But what independent or Libertarian voters out there need to realize is that by using your one vote to vote for Ron Paul or another write in, you will be inadvertently electing Obama. If we don't stand together to all vote for Romney, we will be splitting the vote, which will in turn, cause Obama to win.
Ron Paul is a great man. He has a lot of great, valid points that I agree with. I want our country to return to it's constitutional beginnings. There is a lot of validity in what he has to offer. He is a good moral choice...
but realistically, he does not have a chance to win...this election.
He has raised the of eyebrows of a lot of Christians who know we need a better candidate. But this is not his time, maybe ever or maybe just not yet, I don't know.
This election is pivotal. If we do not get Romney in to, at the very least, re-establish some moral law in this country, as opposed to throwing it all away, then we are headed down a very dark road. One that will not receive the blessings of the Lord.
Over and over in the Bible and down through history, we hear stories of what happened to those generations that did not follow the Lord. They brought destruction upon themselves. Read about Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis or the Isrealites throughout the Old Testament. In Isaiah 37-38 we read that King Hezekiah, who did right in the eyes of the Lord, but whose people did not, was told by Isaiah that they would endure 3 years of famine and trial but at the end of it, a remnant of righteous people, a band of survivors, would take root and bear fruit.
But all believers and followers of Christ should be encouraged!
Right now, we are living in the midst of a revival. A revival to return to godly, biblical living. There are growing numbers of families and individuals who are choosing to go against the popular American ways of life. To fight for what is right in God's eyes, not mans. To live based on godly convictions instead of trendy fads. To raise our children with a biblical worldview not a secular one. To live a life that is pleasing to God. A way of living that makes the feminist and liberals scared. We are the greatest threat to their political agendas. And we as a people are growing in number, daily, by reproducing the image of God through having more children or adopting unwanted children and raising them to follow the Lord.
I know the Lord has a plan for his people. We live comfortably today, but that could all change tomorrow. Do not take our freedom for granted. Pray and repent and ask for God's mercy and grace on his people, on this country. It is not someone else's fault that we are where we are today. We all have contributed in some way by ignorance, apathy, or even by participating. We have allowed, little by little, for filth and evil to permeate our lives; to blur the line of what's right and wrong. This is not ok.
We must live out this verse or bear the consequences:
2 Chronicals 7:11-22 (shortened-please go and read the whole passage)
"I have heard your prayer...When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plaque among my people, if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land...but if you turn away and forsake the decrees and commands I have given you and go off to serve other gods and worship them, then I will uproot Israel from my land...
Please, VOTE for Romney this 2012 election, even if he is not your first choice or is the lesser of two evils. And PRAY... for revival for yourself, your family, friends, and our country. Repent and turn from whatever wicked ways you are following. Ask the Lord for mercy on our land so that "for the sake of ten, he will not destroy us (Genesis 18-19)."
Hi Gabi! I love seeing your posts & seeing your family grow ;) Such a precious family you are and have!! Thank you for your great examples :)
ReplyDeleteI wanted to share with you a little of what us Mormons actually do know and believe, and maybe help you feel even more comfortable in your choice for Romney, even though not all of us in our church automatically vote for him because he is a member of our church.
You can go to www.mormon.org, click on the top bar under 'Our Beliefs' and start at the top under 'Jesus Christ, Our Savior'. This is in no way a way to try and convert you or anyone out there, but there are many people who are misled and told things of our faith that are just not true. If you ever have questions of what we believe or uncertain of things that are told to you, I am totally available to answer those questions or discuss anything you want. I do know that I am a Christian, as I put my full faith on Him, our Savior and Redeemer. I want to live my life with Jesus Christ as my example in everything I do. He is the center of our faith and the head of our church. I'm not writing this to argue about anything, either. I just wanted to put this out there for others to see what our church does believe. Other people call us Mormons based off of The Book of Mormon, which is another testament and records of Jesus Christ when, after Jesus Christ was resurrected, he also visited the Americas where his brothers and sisters were also living. We actually don't call ourselves Mormons, unless people are not familiar with the name of our church. We call ourselves members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. We believe it is Jesus Christ's church that has been restored in these latter days. I love that no matter where we go, on a vacation, even in other countries, we find our church family and feel just as if we were home.
So, even if we have possible differing beliefs of some things (which actually might be surprising that they are the same), I do have the same hope that our country can get back to honoring the very God who gave us our beloved nation. I do hope that if Romney is elected, that people do understand that he is still a man, and hopefully one that holds tight to his beliefs, morals, and values I know he holds so dearly. It's a delicate balance in this nation right now to help our people all feel valued and understood, but I know that when we are following God's ways, we will be blessed. I sure hope that is the direction our country decides to take now in this election.
My kids love playing with your kids! Hopefully we'll see you around sometime soon :) Best wishes in the rest of this wonderful pregnancy!! Can't wait to see another precious addition to your amazing family!
